Trapshooting has a longstanding history in the State of Idaho. Records of ATA shooters from Idaho include Singles
Champions since 1914, Ladies Champions since 1921, and Junior Champions since 1927. ID-PITA was a founding member of the PITA and the ID-PITA state shoot was first held at the Boise Gun Club in 1931. The original Idaho State Trapshooting Association (ISTA) formed in 1948 to promote trapshooting and make regulations pertaining to those events in which members participate. The Lewiston Gun Club, founded in 1881, was the long known as the "oldest Gun Club in the US". There are greater than 18 active gun clubs in the state, all of which sponsor a variety of competitive trapshooting activities.
The Idaho State Trapshooting Association and the
Idaho Pacific International Trapshooting Association exist to promote promote and govern the sport of trapshooting within the state. Both volunteer operated organizations continue to sponsor an annual state shoot where members compete for prizes and trophies based on their performance. Membership in either Association is based on residence and participation in a registered event. There are many trapshooting clubs across the state which hold registered and non-registered shooting activities. All clubs and associations are eligible to present trapshooting information for the Idaho State Trapshooting website.
Trapshooters across the great State of Idaho are proud to carry on the tradition of shooting sportsmanship and camaraderie for which Idaho has been known, and welcomes the participation and support of all trapshooters who share the love of the sport.
